280. MHJ925 ... I guess we all had to learn when we started taking bus photos but I got a few things wrong here in one of my very early shots like watchout for street signs in the way, make sure the bus is in the centre of the photo, hold the camera level and don't be too ambitious taking photos of fast moving buses when you have a fixed shutter speed camera. For the record it is Southend Weymann bodied Leyland PD2 303, MHJ925.

472. CJN436C ... Southend Highbridge PD3 336, CJN436C, was converted to a playbus with the unlikely name of Lulu. 499. CJN441C ... Southend PD3 341, CJN441C, is well known as having gone to Lincoln City Transport as a driver trainer. Less well known, perhaps because it retained its Lincoln livery, is the fact that it later went to Luton & District, also as a trainer. Here, as Luton & District 1042, but still in Lincoln livery and also showing its Lincoln fleet number 99, it is parked inside the gloomy confines of Aylesbury Bus Station.

622. WJN370J ... Southend open top Fleetline 370, WJN370J, outside the Kursaal on a 67 to Shoeburyness East Beach in May 1986. It displays the "Diverted via Special Route" blind, but this is not Carnival Day, which is in August. More likely Air Show Day, when the Sea Front Services are also disrupted. However, it looks as if the wrong destination is shown as it appears to be heading west, rather than east towards Shoebury!

632. WJN373J ... The first batch of Fleetlines was delivered in 1971 and these were to be Southend's standard new double decker for the next ten years. An error by the builders resulted in some of this first batch having the roofs painted blue, instead of the correct cream. One of the vehicles with blue roofs, 373, WJN373J, is at Thorpe Bay Corner on route 8.

650. GHJ382L ... From 1971 onwards, Southend Transport operated special services on Boxing Day, including routes outside their normal area. The most successful by far of the out of area routes was the 400 to Kings Cross, running every two hours over the normally ENOC operated route. It was always operated by the newest double deckers in the fleet, such as 382, GHJ382L, seen here on layover between journeys, and sometimes required duplication - helped by the absence of any train services from Southend to London on Boxing Day!
