The first batch of Fleetlines was delivered in 1971 and these were to be Southend's standard new double decker for the next ten years. An error by the builders resulted in some of this first batch having the roofs painted blue, instead of the correct cream. One of the vehicles with blue roofs, 373, WJN373J, is at Thorpe Bay Corner on route 8.
It has arrived from Southend and is turning round before returning to Rayleigh Station. It is doing this by making a u-turn in the middle of the junction, probably a difficult manoeuvre at any time with a long vehicle and something which would be impossible today!
