Salford 511, FRJ511, a Daimler CVG6 with Metro Cammell bodywork which entered service in 1951. The shortened radiator specified by the manager Charles Baroth to help minimise minor damage can be clearly seen.
Also visible is the multitude of long indicator handles. These were so that crews did not need to stand on mudguards etc again minimising damage to the bus. Also visible between the upper deck front windows is the small orange ball which indicated an eight foot wide bus.
Salford did not allow external adverts on their buses until the sixties and so each vehicle had a city crest on the upper panelling. The bus is seen taking part in the 40th anniversary celebrations for the inception of SELNEC, later Greater Manchester PTE, in 2009.
