Barrow 169, registered, CEO956 was part of a batch of ten Park Royal bodied PD2/40 Titans supplied to Barrow in late 1958 allocated fleetnumbers 161-70. 169 was new in 10/58 and has survived in preservation with sister 170 CEO957, which is also featured on this website.
169 was withdrawn in 1977 and passed to the Furness Transport Group, then to the Mersey & Calder Preservation Group and finally to the Barrow Transport Group, which was formed in 1995 and also owns 170. 170 is preserved in the earlier Barrow livery scheme of Prussian blue/cream and 169 wears the latter scheme introduced in 1962. Barrow Transport also lost its General Manager in 1962, when Albert Burrows became the GM at Chesterfield and Thomas Marsden, who had been deputy at Bournemouth was appointed to GM at Barrow. I thought new manager - new livery style, but it doesn't appear to be the case as Thomas Marsden didn't start at Barrow, officially anyway, until 1/63!
As many will know, CEO956 was hired on 25/10/86 by Barrow Corporation Transport to operate the CT's final service, the 11pm from the Town Hall to Washington, before Barrow Borough Transport became responsible for passenger operations immediately afterwards. After a lengthy absence, CEO956 reappeared on the rally scene in 2016 after restoration work, which seemingly included receiving a new engine and partial repaint.
CEO952 is also featured on this website and remains in service in the guise seen in the photographs with Celtic Travel of Llanidloes registered as 349LVO, having worn TRN662A previously.
Very much like 169's blinds being set for the Promenade---- in Manchester?!.
