Southend Corporation 319, WHJ430, an AEC Bridgemaster with Park Royal H45/31R body, new in 1960.
At first sight it seems strange that one of the largest capacity buses in the fleet was heading to a destination in the middle of MOD land where you needed a pass to enter but I suspect most passengers were bound for Great Wakering. There was a Saturday's only service timed to leave Southend at 5pm which I reckon is the departure that John photographed, the crowd possibly swelled by football fans on the way home from Southend United's ground. Southend lost 3-1 to QPR that day so I suspect quite a few fans left early to catch this bus.
