Southdown 508, JCD508, was another of the batch of 12 Guy Arab III 6LW with Northern Counties metal framed H28/26R bodies. The final 8 (including 508) were delivered between January and July 1949.
508 was photographed by Ralph Cheeseman in June 1953 at Brighton's Pool Valley bus station. Whilst the inspector pondering where the rest of the buses had got to, he may also have been wondering why 508 had received a script style fleetname rather than the customary block style applied to buses. The script style was applied to coaches not buses - there were a few exceptions such as the Guy open toppers, but nobody seems to know why an isolated few buses were so adorned for no apparent reason.
