One of the first (1955/6) batch of Southend's PD2s with exposed radiators and Massey bodies, 290, LHJ392, at the stop opposite the Kursaal with a short working on route 7 to Golden Cross, Rectory Road.
By this time the service along the sea front to Shoebury had been transferred from the 9 to the 7 and 8. These short workings were a regular feature of the timetable for many years. With the demise of the Sea Front Service and closure of Pier Hill to through traffic, there is now no bus route serving this point. The current route (9) along the sea front turns right at the Kursaal on its way into Southend.
