Southend PD2/Massey 278, HJN838, another of the vehicles obtained for trolleybus replacement on route 9 to Eastwoodbury Willson Road in June 1960, just after leaving its then terminus at Pier Hill.
The Palace Hotel, beside which the bus stops were situated, is visible in the right background. This is another location which has changed out of all recognition. Today, the Royals shopping centre is on the left and this quiet road has become the main road east from the High Street towards Seaway car park and Southchurch. Although a few houses survive at the top of this road (just outside the bus station), all those visible in this picture have probably now gone.
