Midland Red 5964, UHA964H, was an S23 vehicle with a BMMO body finished by Plaxton as B51F new in January 1970.
It is working the 917 service which starts just outside Newport in Edgmond and heads, as indicated, to Shrewsbury via Wellington. Although it's difficult to see, on the cantrail this bus carries Hotspur branding. Not many S23s lasted long enough to carry these local identifiers and 5964 would be withdrawn in September 1980 after a criminally short life of just ten years.
This is the only picture I ever took of a Midland Red bus in service, although I did photograph a CM5A in Aberystwyth in 1966.
