R Chisnell & Sons (King Alfred Motor Services), Winchester, HOR590E was one of four Leyland Atlantean PDR1/2 with Roe H43/33F bodies which had been new in April 1967 and were King Alfred's only rear engine double deckers.
The Chisnell operation was acquired on 29 April 1973 by Hants & Dorset Motor Services, in which fleet HOR 590E became no 2302. In May 1974 its seating was altered to H43/31F and it was withdrawn in May 1979. In July of the same year it became no 8602 in the fleet of Bristol Omnibus Co, where it was converted to O43/31F and named 'King Alfred'. In January 1986 it passed to Badgerline, retaining fleet no 8602 and in July 1987 it went from Badgerline to Friends of King Alfred Buses, Winchester, for preservation, although between July 1987 and November 1992 it was loaned to People's Provincial Buses, Hoeford.
