1. WS8059 ... Ken has virtually no information on this picture other than it is captioned Smiths of Reading. It is scanned from a very poor 3x2 print. It is obviously Scottish in origin, and he's ascertained that Smiths had some Leyland Cheetah's from which they removed the bodies and transferred them to other chassis. Apart from that it's open to you all to fill in the blanks. (1950's)
2. FXT229 ... Smith, Reading FXT229 was an A.E.C. O661 Regent, which had been new in 1939 as London Transport RT54, with an LPTB H30/26R body. Smith acquired it in February 1956 and fitted the platform doors and it is seen outside the garage. (Sun 27/3/66, Smith's Garage, Reading)
3. GAT69 ... Smith, Reading GAT69, was acquired from Lloyd, Nuneaton in November 1958. (Sat 22/8/59, Castle Street, Reading)
4. FXT229 ... FXT229 seen here with Smith, Reading was an A.E.C. O661 Regent with an L.P.T.B H30/26R body new in January 1940 which had been RT54 when with London Transport from whom it was acquired in June 1956 via North (dealer), Leeds to whom it had been sold in December 1955. 5. FXT229 ... Smith, Reading FXT229, was one of four A.E.C. O661 Regents acquired from London Transport in 1956. It had an L.P.T.B. H30/26R body and had been new in 1940 as RT54. (Sat 22/8/59, Castle Street, Reading)
6. FXT283 ... Smith, Reading bought four of these wartime RTs in 1956 and FXT283 was an A.E.C. O661 Regent with an L.P.T.B. H30/26R body new in 1940. (Sat 31/8/63, St Mary's Butts, Reading)
7. JFC776 ... Jefferys (Grayshott Coaches), Grayshott JFC776 was an A.E.C. O662 Regal which had been new in 1940 as City of Oxford EB47 with a Weymann B32F body. (Sun 2/5/65, Liss)
8. JUG626 ... JUG626, seen outside Smith’s garage, was a Leyland PD1, new in May 1946 as Leeds 326, with a Roe H31/25R body. Withdrawn in April 1960 it was one of six which passed to Smith, Reading in May 1961, entering service in January 1962 and was fitted with platform doors by May 1962. 9. JUG628 ... Guildbury Players, Guildford acquired JUG628 from Smith, Reading in 1966 for use as a mobile caravan by the theatre company. New in 1946 as Leeds 328 it was a Leyland PD1 with Roe H31/25R body and passed in 9/61 to Smith who fitted it with platform doors. (Wed 7/6/72, Epsom)
10. ACP410 ... Smith, Reading acquired three 1947 A.E.C. O961 Regent IIIs from Halifax in 1959, two with Roe bodies and ACP410 with a Park Royal H33/26R body. (Sat 22/8/59, Castle Street, Reading)
11. DDP295 ... Salem Ali Abdo, Crater L3078 was a Bedford OB with a Duple C29F body which had been new as DDP295, new in February 1948 to Smith, Reading. (c.1960/2, Aden)
12. ENT709 ... Smith, Reading acquired ENT709 in June 1957 from Lowe & Son, Trench. It was a Dennis J3 Lancet III with a Yeates C35F body which had been new in 1948 to Lowe. (Sun 17/5/59, Whipsnade Zoo)
13. MWL972 ... Reliance, Newbury 85, MWL972, was acquired in November 1963 from Smith, Reading. (Sun 27/3/66, Reliance Garage, Newbury)
14. EDP95 ... Smith, Reading EDP95 seen outside Reading Station was a Duple C29F bodied Bedford OB. (Sat 31/8/63, Reading Stations)
15. OFC383 ... Originally new to City of Oxford in 1949 as H383, and later renumbered H882, OFC383 was a Weymann H30/26R bodied A.E.C. 9612A Regent III which was acquired by Smith, Reading in January 1961 and fitted with platform doors along with OFC 385-388 acquired at the same time. 16. OFC386 ... OFC386 seen here with Smith, Reading, outside their garage, was an A.E.C. 9612A Regent III, which had been new as City of Oxford H885 in 1949, with a Weymann H30/26R body. Smith acquired it in November 1960 and fitted platform doors. (Sun 27/3/66, Smith's Garage, Reading)
17. NTG135 ... New as Rhondda 282, NTG135 was an A.E.C. 9613S Regent III with a Weymann H30/26R body acquired by Smith, Reading in November 1965, fitted with platform doors in December 1965 and is seen outside the garage. (Sun 27/3/66, Smith's Garage, Reading)
18. JRD990 ... Smith, Reading JRD990 was an A.E.C. MU3RV Reliance with a Duple Elizabethan C41C body seen in Hastings, and had been new in March 1955. (Sat 25/8/62, Hastings)
19. UMJ333 ... UMJ333, seen at Ascot Racecourse, was a Bedford SB3 with a Duple Vega C41F body which had been new in May 1958 to Baxter, Moggerhanger, but which is seen here with Smith, Reading, to whom it had passed in April 1959. (Sat 18/7/64, Ascot Racecourse)
20. 84DLW ... Seen on the forecourt of the Earls Court Exhibition Centre, with Smith, Reading, was 84DLW, an A.E.C. 2MU3RA Reliance which had been new to Glenton, London S.E.14 in April 1962 with a Plaxton Panorama C34F body, passing to Smith in March 1970. 21. FMX596B ... Smith, Reading FMX596B was a Bedford SB13 with a Duple Bella Vega C41F body which had been new in April 1964 to Wootten, London S.E.13. It is seen in one of the coach parks at Wembley Stadium. (Sat 12/4/69, Wembley Stadium)
