SMG1, LWR431, entered service with West Yorkshire in 1953 as its EUG1, a Bristol LS5G with ECW DP41F 'Express' bodywork.
In 1957 it was re-seated to B45F layout by ECW and renumbered SUG1, denoting its relegation to bus status. It was renumbered again as SMG1 in 1962, quite possibly due to being converted for 'pay as you enter' operation.
In January 1955, it was involved in West Yorkshire experiments with the Cave-Brown-Cave heating system. The CBC heat exchanger/radiator was mounted within the front dome, leading to the destination display being moved to a position below the windscreen, as seen in the photo.
It ran in this form until withdrawal in November 1969, when it was sold to W North (dealer), Sherburn-in-Elmet.
