New to Bullock, Featherstone in 1935 as number 173, HL6584, a Leyland TD3, had a Leyland L27/24R body. It was rebodied with a Barnaby L27/28R body during the war and passed to West Riding, Wakefield, still as number 173 in September 1950.

2. HL6633
West Riding, Wakefield took delivery of thirty-three Leyland TS7c buses in 1935 with Leyland B32F bodies, being numbers 397-429. 407, HL6633, seen here in Leeds Central Bus Station, was one of fifteen which were rebodied with new Roe B32F bodies between August 1948 and November 1949, this one dating from February 1949.

A familiar sight in Leeds Central Bus Station shows West Riding, Wakefield 411, HL6637, a Leyland TS7c with a Roe B32F body, which had replaced the original Leyland B32F body in March 1949.

Seen in Leeds Bus Station is West Riding 452, HL7526, a Leyland TS7c with a Roe B32F body, new in August 1936. It was one of twenty-seven delivered in 1936, and was reconditioned in 1946.

Hayes, Horsforth HL7537 was a Leyland KPZ2 Cub with Roe B24F body new to West Riding in 1936 as number 463. It passed to Hayes in May 1949, was withdrawn in October 1955 and used thereafter for staff transport for Hayes' Ford agency.

West Riding 213, HL8060, was a Barnaby DP35F bodied Daimler COG5/40 new in 1937 to Bullock & Sons when it was fitted with a Willowbrook DP39F body. The Barnaby body was fitted in May 1950 shortly before the fleet passed to West Riding

West Riding 343, HL8063, was a Leyland TS7 new as Bullock 209 in 1937 with a Barnaby B35F body. It was rebodied, as seen here with a Longford C33F body and renumbered in 1949, passing to West Riding in 1950.

West Riding 223, HL8815, was a Leyland TS8 with Barnaby C32F body new to Bullock & Sons in 1938 and was acquired with the Bullock operation in 1950. Fitted originally with a Barnaby C32F body the one illustrated was an early post war replacement by the same builder.

West Riding 223, HL8815, seen in Leeds Central Bus Station, was a Leyland TS8 with a Barnaby C32F body which had been new to Bullock & Sons, Featherstone in June 1938. It passed, with the Bullock business, to West Riding in September 1950 and was withdrawn in 1957, passing to Higgs (dealer), Cudworth for scrap in March.

New in May 1940 with a Roe L24/24R body, HL9809 was number 244 in the Bullock, Featherstone fleet and was a Leyland TD7. In August 1945 the body was destroyed by fire and a new Roe L27/26R body fitted in November 1950 with the vehicle being delivered to West Riding, Wakefield since the Bullock business had been taken over in September 1950.

West Riding, Wakefield 244, HL9809, was a Leyland TD7 with a Roe L27/26R body which is seen in Leeds Central Bus Station. It had been one of four new to Bullock & Sons in 1940 with a Roe L24/24R body but the original body was destroyed by fire in August 1945.

Bullock, Featherstone put two Daimler CWG5s with Brush L27/28R bodies into service in 1943 and 260, AHL11, entered service in July. In September 1950 it passed to West Riding, Wakefield with the Bullock business and retained its fleet number.

HL9994, seen in Selby Market Place, was West Riding, Wakefield 576, and was a Guy Arab I (6LW) which had been new in 1943 with a Brush L27/28R body. In August 1950 this was replaced with the 1937 Roe L24/24R body from 504, HL6071, with the Brush body being fitted to 504, a Leyland TD4c for disposal to Morrell (dealer), Leeds.

The first nine AEC Regent IIIs (0961001-009) were delivered to West Riding and 61, AHL656, was one of these delivered in 1946 as additions to the tram replacement fleet. Initially in red livery if was painted into the green livery by December 1954 and repainted back to the red livery in August 1957.

West Riding 787, AHL693, started life in 1947 as Bullock 283, a Leyland PS1/1 with Barnaby B35F body and passed to West Riding with the rest of Bullock's vehicles in 1950. It was, along with others from the batch, rebodied in 1956 with a Roe L27/26R body and renumbered 787. It was withdrawn in 1964.

West Riding 640, BHL682, is a 1948 Leyland Titan PD2/1, an early example of the model as the BHL batch retained a number of PD1 parts, particularly the front axles. Leyland L27/26R bodywork is fitted and the exposed framing shows the way the stress braces were fitted across the pillars.

They had very well appointed interiors and, partly due to the early demise of the Wulfrunians, had long active lives - they were still in regular all-day service around Castleford and Featherstone in the early 'seventies.

Stuart Little's recent Edinburgh bus rally photograph prompted me to post this view, taken on the Huddersfield Centenary Rally in 1983, to commemorate one hundred years of municipal public transport. I believe nineteen buses are visible here and they are listed below as far as I can identify. The late Bob Mack will have taken a very similar photograph to this as he was stood on the platform of the bus next to me, only I've forgotten what it was.

This Guy Wulfrunian with Roe body was new to County Motors in 1960. At the time County was jointly owned by West Riding and Yorkshire Traction and as a result the vehicle policy was to follow West Riding for double deck purchases and Yorkshire Traction for saloons. Numbered 99 in the County fleet it and its companion were quickly sold to West Riding where it became 995, UCX275, in their fleet.

In a comment on the delightful Mexborough and Swinton trolleybus photo, Chris Barker mentioned the spectacle of a coke oven being discharged. A recent comment on cab doors and emergency exits asked when did you last see a bus nose down in a ditch. Well in summer 1973 West Riding Leyland National 356, JHL856L, left the road on the service between Wakefield and Holmfirth and ended up perilously close to what was admittedly a shallow river. I think it's Denby Dale but I'm not sure.

In later life it was converted to B50F and renumbered 116, as seen here. It is carrying a livery indicating the joint NBC/PTE operations in West Yorkshire, but has not received the verona green and buttermilk livery as was being applied at that time.
