Western National 2744, TUO256J, was a Bristol RELL6G with ECW B53F bodywork, which was new in November 1970. Despite the destination it is loading for its return journey to Falmouth.
This was the year of the drought and the photograph was taken on one of the last days of the heatwave of 1976; by this time most of Cornwall's buses were beginning to look a bit grimy and in need of a good wash which had been prohibited by act of Parliament. Denis Howell, the Environment Minister, had been appointed Minister for Drought shortly before the weather finally broke; he was quickly rebranded Minister of Floods and later in his ministerial career he was given the additional title of Minister for Snow during the harsh winter of 1978/9. A latter-day Man For All Seasons perhaps!
