Dating back to the mid-1960s, when municipal buses in Lancashire towns were there to provide a public service seven days a week, Wigan 162, JP8311, a 1950 Leyland PD2/1 with the chassis makers own H30/26R bodywork stands in Market Street awaiting the driver for another journey to Beech Hill via Springfield.

Widnes 22, AEK503, a Leyland Titan PD2/12 built in 1953 with Leyland H30/26R bodywork, new as Wigan 16.

Six 1953 Leyland PD2/12s with Leyland H30/26R (three) or H33/26R (three) bodies were acquired from Wigan Corporation in 1969 (four) and 1970 (two). Widnes 23, AEK506, one of the 1969 acquisitions with an H30/26R body had been Wigan 93 and is seen in Widnes departing for Halebank.

Six 1953 Leyland PD2/12s with Leyland H30/26R (three) or H33/26R (three) bodies were acquired from Wigan Corporation in 1969 (four) and 1970 (two). Widnes 24, AEK507, one of the 1969 acquisitions with an H33/26R body, which had been Wigan 94, is seen leaving the garage in Widnes.

Widnes 25, AEK508, is one of no less than six of these PD2/12s bought by Widnes from Wigan in 1969/70. Their numbering in the Widnes fleet wasn't much less haphazard than at Wigan where fleet numbers of the twelve had ranged from 8 to 99, although the last seven were numbered consecutively.

Wigan Corporation 57, HEK705, a 1961 Leyland Titan PD3A/2 with locally built Massey body. After several batches of PD3s, Wigan reverted to the PD2 for its final front engined deliveries in 1967.

For most of their existence Massey produced well rounded bodywork with a very curved outline. Wigan 57, HEK705, a 1961 Leyland Titan PD3A/2 shows that the rear was as equally shapely as the front.

The evening sun glints off of two former Wigan vehicles at the now closed Melverly Street depot in Wigan. Both vehicles are wearing the GMT livery. The double decker is HJP4, a 1961 Leyland Titan PD3A/2 with Massey bodywork that was 49 in the Wigan fleet. The saloon also carries Massey bodywork and is a relatively rare Leyland Panther Cub new to Wigan in 1967 as their 22, EEK1F.

Former Wigan 51, HJP5, was a Leyland PD3A/2 with a Northern Counties H40/30F body dating from 1961. In this view, it is seen working as a promotional bus for Sitges Patronat Municipal de Turisme, bearing the Spanish licence plate B-3640-FP.

Wigan Corporation's Northern Counties bodied Leyland Titan PD3s had a tall and stately air about them. They also had a similar window layout to Southdowns famous "Queen Marys". The small window was used to allow for equal sized windows on both decks. Seen in Wigan bus station is 70, HJP7, a 1961 example on PD3A/2 chassis.

Weardale MS JJP502, a Leyland Titan PD2A/27 built in 1962 with Massey H37/27F bodywork. New as Wigan 35, it passed to GMPTE, becoming 3244, and then went to East Staffordshire 8 before arriving at Weardale.

Berresford purchased nine Leyland Titan PD2A/27 from Greater Manchester in 1975/6 with two different body makes. KEK739 ex GM 3255 had Massey bodywork and is seen at the Cheddleton depot in March 1978.

The second bodybuilder from the batch of nine Leyland Titan PD2A/27 Berresfords purchased from GM Buses was Northern Counties whose H37/27F bodywork is seen on KEK745, originally from Wigan and subsequently GM Buses 3265.

DEK3D, a 1966 Leyland PD2/37 with Massey body, new to Wigan Corporation one of a batch of three Leyland PD2’s delivered in December 1966, given a fleet No 140. It ran for Wigan Corporation until it was taken over by Greater Manchester PTE in April 1974. At this time 140 was repainted into GMPTE’s orange livery and given fleet No 3281. It ran until the summer of 1983, when it was withdrawn and sold to the Wallace Driver Training School London.
