Walsall's last General Manager was a keen experimenter, rebuilding and lengthening several trolleybuses. One of his less successful experiments involved fitting auxiliary diesel engines to trolleybuses. The victim of one of these experiments was 873, HBE542, seen here dumped at the back of Walsall depot after the end of the experiment. It has been much modified at the back.
