Stockport 40, FDB340C, had served some time as a training bus after withdrawal by Greater Manchester Transport. It is seen here very soon after it was restored to Stockport livery, in fact the restoration was not quite complete as the coat-of-arms has not yet been added, although it was shortly afterwards.
The bus had come up into the Pennines on Standedge for the owner to gain familiarity with driving a large vehicle, in particular gear changing. The relatively-quiet and sweeping A62 over Standedge is an excellent place for that, especially with a qualified driver trainer present.
