Photographed in June 1970 on a rather dismal day, blue sky behind notwithstanding, is SHMD No.72, VTU72, a Daimler CVG6 of 1956 with Northern Counties H35/23CD bodywork.
On my relatively rare visits to the Manchester area back in time it appeared to me that these centre entrance SHMD buses generally operated, as here, with the doors open; presumably they were conductor operated.
