SHMD Operator Index

To my surprise and great pleasure, the 1960s weekend in the series of events held at Boyle Street to commemorate 200 years of the bus provided an opportunity to see four SHMD buses together.
The last time a similar SHMD line-up had been seen was in Greenfield in 1979, albeit at that time the REs and some Fleetlines were still in service and would no doubt be seen together in GMT's Tameside depot.
It was also a rare opportunity to see two Atkinsons together as well as being a shop window for the variety of body styles produced by Northern Counties. SHMD bought few buses with bodywork by anybody else after the war but that hadn't led to a standardised fleet! 108 (XLG477) is an Atkinson Alpha PL745H with B34+27C bodywork, 70 (UMA370) is an Atkinson PD746 with H35/25CD body, 76 (VTU76) is a Daimler CVG6 with H35/25CD body and 117 (YLG717F) is a Bristol RESL6G with B43F body.
