1. UP551
Northern General bought chassis from BMMO in the early twenties including this SOS QL 338, UP551, seen at the Festival of Transport at Beamish. The very narrow cab on these vehicles is apparent in this view. Arriving as a semi derelict wreck this bus has been painstakingly rebuilt by the Beamish staff.

Northern General bought this Associated-Daimler 416 in 1928. It survived in chassis only form and was exported to the USA where its American owner fitted the replica charabanc body it carries today.

Brooks SOS ON CN6019, new in 1934 to Northern General 613 with a Short B34F body. In 1940, it was requisitioned by the War Dept, then in 1945 to Brooks then James (Showman) Aspley Notts. Last licensed 9/51. Body was rebuilt at Bracebridge. with coach seats.

Northern General 1454, KUP404, was a Guy Arab III (5LW) with an ACB B35F body which had been new in October 1949 to Hurst, Winlaton. It was acquired in August 1951 along with eleven other vehicles when Hurst's business was acquired and was seen outside Marlborough Crescent Bus Station.

Green Bus Company, Rugeley 17, LPT140, was a Guy Arab III fitted with a Brush B38F which had been new in 1950 to Northern General as number 1340. It was acquired by Green Bus Company in October 1962 and was one of four acquired at that time following eight which had been acquired in 1959/60. It is at the Rugeley garage of Green Bus.

Wakefield Motor's 192, FT7792 (with 191, FT7791 on the left) were two AEC Beadle rebuilds with Beadle FC39F bodies of 1954. Unusually, these were not allocated Northern General chassis numbers and their former identities were unknown. Both were sold to Garners of Bridge of Weir in 1962, and withdrawn in 1965.

During 1976 Northern General had a vehicle shortage that resulted in the loan of a handful of buses from Southdown. One of these, Southdown 112, 112CUF, is seen in Sunderland bus station ready to depart for Consett. 112 is a Leyland Leopard PSU3/1 with Marshall B45F bodywork new to Southdown in 1963.

In 1971 Northern General rebuilt an accident damaged Leyland Titan PD3 to a normal control layout as an experimental O.M.O. bus to see if rebuilding their other front engined chassis in this way was viable. The resultant vehicle was called the Tynesider and re-registered MCN30K.

Northern General took over the Consett Independent Venture in 1969. It was run as a separate subsiduary until 1975 when it was absorbed into the Northern company.
