Neath & Cardiff Operator Index

To replace the Guy Arab LUFs, Neath & Cardiff bought secondhand Reliances from other BET operators. Two (RRC237 / RRC238) came from Trent in which fleet they had been new as 237 and 238 (later 37 and 38) and ran at first in Trent livery before receiving N & C's distinctive brown and red livery.
These vehicles were on 2MU3RA chassis and had Weymann Fanfare bodies - N & C had bought three similar vehicles (but with vacuum brakes) in 1958 (RCY 803-805). Despite the small fleet size in the late 1960s it had examples from all the major postwar British coachbuilders.
During 1969 as the company was slowly being absorbed into the larger BET neighbours, eight vehicles were allocated to Western Welsh's Penarth Road depot. This was indicated by a white triangle carried on the front and rear as seen above. From 5th September 1970 the Cardiff-based operations were transferred to Western Welsh but RRC 238 ended up joining the South Wales fleet as their 107 when that operator took over N & C from 1st January 1971. It was withdrawn later that year and passed to Camm, Nottingham.
