Leeds 586 seen in Whingate approaching the terminus on its journey from Crossgates was ex London Transport 2157, and previously London United 388, entering service in Leeds on 5th February 1952. It was of the UCC/2 class with G.E.C. electrical equipment and it seated 42/28 in its Union Construction Company body built at Feltham, Middlesex.
Metropolitan Vickers OK9B controllers were fitted in October 1955 due to the problem of obtaining spares for the G.E.C. equipment. and 586 was withdrawn on 13th September 1957. This shot, taken from one of the second floor form rooms at West Leeds Boys' High School, shows the bottom corner of Charlie Cake Park on the left with Springfield Mount running from right to left. The tram service to Whingate was withdrawn the following day.
