Leeds 278, seen entering the terminal stub at Harehills before returning to Briggate, was one of three ex-London HR/2 trams acquired in 1939, and numbered 277-279 (London 1881/3/6).
They had been new in August 1930 to the London County Council and had Hurst Nelson bodies, seating 48/28, on E.M.B. Heavyweight bogies. 278 entered service in Leeds on 23rd December 1939 and was withdrawn on 26th September 1957, two days after the photograph was taken, the last of the three to be used in service. Behind it is 275, the austerity car built by the Transport Department in 1943.
