Shaw Bros, Byers Green

In April 1964 Shaw Bros., Byers Green acquired HCD904 from Southdown, where it had been number 304. It was a Leyland PD1 with a Leyland H28/26R body new in 1947 and is seen in Spennymoor.

Shaw Bros, Byers Green, CRN822, a Leyland Titan PD2/3 built 1950 with Leyland L27/26R bodywork. This had been new as Ribble 2729.

Shaw Brothers of Byers Green, NAE17, was one the ex-Bristol Omnibus, Bristol KS6Bs with highbridge ECW bodies of 1950, bought by various NE independents in the 1960s.

Shaw, Byers Green GFW278 seen in Spennymoor was a Bristol KS6B with an Eastern Coachworks H32/28R body which had been new as Lincolnshire 777 in May 1951. In 1953 it was renumbered 2130 and passed to Shaw in December 1965 via North (dealer), Sherburn.

Exeter Corporation dual sourced from Leyland and Guy in the 1950s. Seen here is 52, UFJ292, a 1957 Guy Arab IV with Massey 56 seat bodywork. On withdrawal it was bought by Shaw Brothers of Byers Green in whose livery it is preserved.

Alexander Northern NAC8, WPT136, was a Plaxton Consort C41C bodied AEC Reliance new in 1957 to Shaw Bros., Byers Green. It passed to Burnett, Mintlaw in May 1962 and to Alexander Northern in January 1967 on the acquisition of the Burnett business.

Lancs United bought many Leyland Titans over the years the last ones came in 1958 and were Leyland Titan PD3/4s with Metro Cammell bodywork. After withdrawal by LUT in 1970 649, 566FTF, found further employment with Shaw Brothers of Byers Green. It is seen on a murky day in Spennymoor.

Seen in Spennymoor is 566FTF, a Leyland PD3/4 with a Metro-Cammell H41/32R body which had been new as Lancashire United 649 in 1958. Shaw Bros., Byers Green acquired it in October 1970 and it passed to United in January 1975 but was not operated.

Shaw Bros., Byers Green DPT895G, seen here in Midland Road at the side of St. Pancras station, was an A.E.C. 6MU3R Reliance with a Plaxton Panorama I C51F body new in February 1969. This was an unusual coach in having the only 36 foot Panorama I body on an A.E.C. Reliance chassis in the 1969 body series, when the Panorama Elite was the standard coach body. This became United 1157 in January 1975 and is recorded, incorrectly, in the P.S.V. Circle Fleet History PA19 as having a Plaxton Panorama Elite body.
