H&C YYB118 revisits Somerset.
Two for the price of one. This picture was taken by a crew member during a 2016 return to Somerset for the then newly restored Hutchings & Cornelius Dennis Lancet YYB118. South Petherton must have been a mecca for enthusasts. On the right (Higher Res photo) can be seen the former Safeway offices, where Miss Gunn held court. On the left YYB118 is emerging from the former H&C yard which is now a public car park.
We had actually managed to thread our way in and get up against the back wall where a relatively basic maintenace facility once existed. Rather than complaints from cars parked there, we were met by a flurry of hastily produced camera phones. The houses to the rear are a recent addition. In fact some photographs of H&C buses show an ivy clad building in the background. This stood at the back of the yard and was demolished before the firm closed, giving the impression that photos might have been taken in two different places, but not so. The Safeway offices is now a Vets, hence the man with the basket.
