Here's an update on VG5541 - the only surviving Bristol G bus, and the most expensive and longest restoration undertaken by Roger Burdett. It is being restored to a really high condition. The engine and cab have been completed - no speedometer on this vehicle just one pressure gauge.

Bickers, Coddenham ran CAH921 a Dennis Ace 4LK new to Eastern Counties in January 1938 with an E.C.W. B20F body. Upon withdrawal in 1949 the engine and gearbox were removed for use in the E.C.W. chassisless CD class in 1950. Sold to Bickers it was fitted with a Dennis engine and gearbox and entered service in June 1952, was withdrawn in November 1959 and was noted derelict on the premises in May 1965.

Former Eastern Counties Bristol K LKH32, FAH108, in use with Essex Police as a mobile exhibition unit. It was a K5G new in 1945/6 and rebodied with an 8' wide body by ECW in 1953.

Eastern Counties LK12, FNG400, was the second of two Bristol K6As with Strachans L27/26R bodies new in 1946. In 1946/7 it was renumbered to LK42 and was rebodied with an Eastern Coachworks L27/28R body in February 1953.

Eastern Counties D999, FNG818, new in 1947 was a Beadle-Dennis integral with a Beadle B33R body seen at Bishop's Road Bus Station, Peterborough. It had a Gardner 4LK engine and Dennis units from United Counties 504 (VV7278) and was withdrawn later in 1959.

Eastern Counties Bristol K6B/ECW H30/26R LKH103, HPW103, was new in 1949, and renumbered LKH416 in 1965. LKH103 was unusual in being one of twelve Bristol K-types fitted with ECW 4-bay bodies, rather than the 5-bay design usually associated with the type.

When new in 1949, this ECW bodied Bristol K5G was loaned to London Transport to cover the delay in new vehicle deliveries. It went to its rightful owner Eastern Counties in 1950 where it became LKH133, HPW133, in their fleet.

The original Bedford petrol engine was replaced by a Gardner 4LK in 1950 and the bus was withdrawn in 1961 after which it became Eastern Counties staff bus X51 before passing to Ben Jordan (dealer), Coltishall in 1965.

Poor quality but I hope its worth it. In colour a red and green coloured bus both at Cambridge Railway Station in the early 1960s. The Eastern Counties Bristol KSW5G, new in 1952, MAH309, LKH309 was bodied by ECW H32/28R and is on the short run from the station through the City Centre. On a very much longer run is 1960 United Counties URP600 shortly to set off on route 128 to Northampton. Fleet no 600 is a Bristol FS6B with ECW body H33/27RD.

Eastern Counties BVS852, PPW852, was a Bedford SBO with a Duple DP35F body. Originally seating C37F and one of eighteen such coaches new in 1954 it was originally numbered BV852 and was renumbered in 1959 after being re-seated and repainted into bus livery. These vehicles had Gardner 4LK engines, rather than the usual Perkins one and also had David Brown 5-speed gearboxes.

Eastern Counties OT1, VDV752, is one of the few examples of the Bristol LDL6G. Only 7 were built. She was new to Western National in 1957 with ECW H37/33RD bodywork, converted to open top layout by the time my father took this view of her, with Eastern Counties, in September 1984.

When the exchange of S B G Bristol VRs for Lodekkas took place, for a short time, the English exchanged buses were operated in their original liveries. While this was barely noticeable with Western SMT, AA977 (KVF478E) from Eastern Counties was used in Edinburgh amongst Eastern Scottish green stablemates. Apart from the Eastern Scottish fleet number, livery changes have yet to be made.

Eastern Counties received four Bedford VAM with ECW B41F bodywork in 1967. Given the rather apt designation SB661-664, NAH661F-NAH664F the first two were Bedford engined VAM5 with the latter two Leyland engined VAM14. The body was adapted from the MW design with amended windscreens to suit the front mounted engine and radiator.
