Darwen purchased five PD3A/1's with East Lancs H41/31F bodies in 1964/5 for a life on the Darwen to Blackburn 'main line'.
All five joined the Blackburn fleet in 1974 but after a hard ten years working seven days a week, the 'tin worm' was already at work and they had relatively short lives. The last of the five, MTJ969C, by this time Blackburn 131 is seen in Darwen Bus Station.
