Birkenhead were allocated this Guy Arab II with austerity Massey body in 1944 Originally 324, BG8557, in Birkenhead's fleet it was rebodied in 1953 and renumbered as 242 with Massey again providing the H31/28R body. In its new guise it remained in service until 1969, a very creditable 24 years.

Recent discussion regarding Wallasey's unusual rear window layout and extra rear light prompted me to submit this photo I took at the 2014 Wirral Tram and Bus Rally. Preserved Birkenhead 105, BG9225, a Massey-bodied PD1, and Wallasey 54, AHF850, the Metro Cammell-bodied PD2/1 make an interesting comparison.

Massey H30/26R bodied Leyland PD1 BG9227 was number 63 in the fleet of Paton, Renfrew having been acquired in 1960 from Birkenhead where it was number 107.

Paton, Renfrew acquired BG9229 from Birkenhead Corporation 109 in 1960 and numbered it 65. Seen at the garage it was a Leyland PD1 with a Massey H30/26R body new in December 1946 and was withdrawn by Paton in 1964.

Birkenhead 127, ACM302, a Leyland PD1 with a Massey H30/26R body new in September 1948 passed to Paton, Renfrew as number 72 in 1961, is seen outside the garage and was withdrawn in September 1965.

Paton, Renfrew 73, ACM308, was acquired in late 1961 from Birkenhead, where it had been number 133. It was a Leyland PD1 with a Massey H30/26R body new in 1948.

10. ABG814
Birkenhead 214, ABG814, was a Leyland PD2/3 with a Leyland H31/26R body seen in Birkenhead. Unusually for a Leyland body, but not unique, this batch had sliding cab doors. The sliding windows are also deeper than usual.

Birkenhead 231, BCM931, was a Guy Arab III with an East Lancs H33/26R body, one of fifteen new between June and August 1952, and was seen at the Birkenhead garage on an Omnibus Touring Circle weekend.

Birkenhead 6, FCM996, was a Leyland PD2/40 with Massey H31/28R bodywork. It was one of eight new in 1957 all of which passed to Merseyside PTE in December 1969.

FBG910, preserved Birkenhead Transport 10 outside North West Road Transport Museum. It is a Leyland Titan PD2/40 with Massey body and now fitted with a Leyland 680 engine, entered service in January 1958.

Manchester 3245, JND646, is a 1951 Leyland Titan PD2/3 with Metro Cammell bodywork and next is a later Birkenhead example 75, MCM975, a 1962 Leyland Titan PD2/40 with curvacious Massey bodywork.
