Bolton Corporation Tramways 48 was an Electric Railway & Tramway Carriage Works 22/34 seat open top car with a Brill 21E 4-wheel truck, dating from 1900.
This unposted card depicts it in this superbly decorated condition to celebrate the opening of the joint tramway service between Bolton and Bury on 20th May 1907.
This car had been chosen for decoration because, by this time, it was the only one in this batch not to have received a top cover. In July of 1907 this decorated car was loaned to the connecting South Lancashire Tramways Company to help celebrate the opening of Leigh's new Town Hall. In September of that year, the decorations were removed to enable it to receive a balcony top cover.
