Southdown 831, MUF431, a Leyland Royal Tiger PSU1/16 Harrington Wayfarer C26C tourer was photographed when only 2 months old on excursion duties on Brighton seafront.
There were 2 of these (830 & 831) delivered in April 1953 for use on a new Southern Ireland tour. Apart from being air-braked, they were similar to the 20 delivered in 1952. 830 was sold to C.I.E. for the season, whilst 831 was used for the UK bit from Brighton to Holyhead. Presumably it would be available for other work in between these duties - perhaps the anti-macassers were in the wash?
Info from Colin Druce's excellent 'Southdown at its Zenith' which is proving invaluable in finding detail for my captions to theses Southdown images
