1. DY4953
A very early shot of pioneering trolleybuses in Hastings. The system opened in 1928 using a fleet of Guy trolleybuses. Eight of these were Dodson bodied open top open staircase double deckers which were the only new build open top trolleybuses built. The rest of the fleet were centre entrance saloons with Ransome Sims and Jeffries bodywork. Both vehicles were on Guy BTX chassis The double decker is 1, DY4953, while the saloon is 22, DY5124.

Ransomes bodied Guy BTX trolleybus DY5113 shown in Derby service, new in 1928 to Hastings and one of six to Derby in 1942.

A Southdown trolleybus? The Southdown Enquiry Office and Waiting Room at Cosham Post Office started life as Hastings & District 41 DY5454, a Guy BTX60 trolleybus with a Ransomes Sims & Jeffries B32C body new 2/29.

9. DY5458
Former Hastings Tramways trolleybus 45, DY5458, a Guy BTX with Ransomes, Sims & Jeffries B32C body, new in 1929. The Hastings trolleybus system was taken over by Maidstone & District in 1935, and was closed down in 1959. 45 was at some point converted to an M&D enquiry and booking office for use in Hastings Bus Station, where it is seen here in 1970.

10. TF2018
South Lancashire 10, TF2081, one of ten Guy BTX with Roe L29/26R bodies new in August 1930 is seen at Atherton. The overhead moves into the centre of the road under the bridge whilst the trolleybus keeps to the nearside because of reduced clearance. This is one which had been rebuilt by Bond, Wythenshawe 1950/1.

11. TF2075
South Lancashire Transport 4, TF2075, on the one way circuit in Atherton High Street. This was one of the least rebuilt of the original fleet of Guy BTX trolleybuses with Roe L27/26R bodies dating from 1930 and was caught on the last Saturday of trolleybus operation.

South Lancashire 18, TF5797, was a Guy BTX with a Roe L29/26R body new in May 1931 rebuilt by Bond, Wythenshawe in 1950/1 which was seen at Swinton Church.

South Lancashire Transport 42, TJ2969, dating from 1933 was from the third batch of Guy trolleybuses, in this case a BT with Roe L24/24R bodywork.

A rear view of South Lancashire 44, TJ3332, one of sixteen Guy BT with Roe L22/26R bodies which were new in September 1933. It is seen at Spinning Jenny Street, Leigh and appears not to have an upper deck emergency exit.

Bilston Corporation Trolleybuses! Wolverhampton trolleybuses 277, BJW177, and 280, BJW180, were sold to Bilston Corporation 5/54 for use as polling stations. They were both 1938 Guy BT / Roe H54R. The upper decks were removed c.58/59 and they were both eventually sold to Don Everall 4/65.

Belfast Trolleys 108, FZ7893, and 176 at Whitewell terminus. Both were Guy BTX with Harkness H36/32R bodies, 108 new in 1948 and 176 in 1949.

After many years of neglect, Belfast trolleybus 112, FZ7897, was fully restored in 1996 to become a static exhibit at the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum.

A recent visit to the Keighley Bus Museum revealed a number of buses which, until now, have not featured on our site. Belfast 168, GZ8532, a Guy BTX with a Harkness H36/32R body dating from 1949, is a new arrival pending a long-awaited restoration.
