Southend Corporation Transport 244, FOP429, a Daimler CWA6 with Duple O30/26R seen on the sea front in the 1950s.
Originally supplied to Birmingham during wartime, the bus, one of six which joined the opertional fleet, came to Southend Corporation from the Benfleet & District operation and were converted by the operator to open top.
Not the fastest buses in the fleet but quite pleasant to drive with old age gradually seeing their demise. I cannot recall which vehicle was concerned but one of them had a non height adjustable loose drivers seat. To allow adjustment, four house bricks were carried in the cab in order that drivers could adjust the seat height to their taste. Not quite sure how this would go down these days!
