West Yorkshire 4083, DWU836H, was new to York-West Yorkshire in 1970 as its YVR51 (renumbered 3951 in 1971). It was a Series 2 Bristol VRT/SL6G with ECW H39/31F bodywork, and was the first of three VRs to be converted to Driver Training Vehicles by West Yorkshire, following their withdrawal from passenger service.
(The other two were Y-WY 3953/55, originally numbered YVR53/55). 4083 entered service in its new guise in September 1983, and is seen here outside Central Works, Harrogate in its startling new trainer livery, which one colleague described as looking like a mobile barber's shop!
When new, YVR51 cost £8622, less 25% New Bus Grant which took the amount down to £6427.
