Sutherland Transport & Trading Company's DNS354L, a Bedford VAS5 with Willowbrook B16FM bodywork has arrived from Lochinver on the west coast and waits just below the Post Office on Lairg's Main Street for the arrival of the bus from the railway station with mail, parcels (and maybe the odd passenger) from the south. Then the daily ritual will be enacted and the sleepy village of Lairg will become (briefly) a hive of activity until the buses depart and all is peaceful again.
The bus was new to ST&TC in 1972 and looks a bit down at heel with fleetnames removed for some reason; the photograph was taken well before the demise of the company. It will return to Lochinver and other buses will leave for Tongue, Durness and (probably) Scourie, unless the Durness bus is carrying Scourie passengers and mail, in which case they will be transferred at Laxford Bridge.
