Bedford VAS Chassis Index

Turnbull of Lockerbie traded for many years as Blue Band Motors and had a service roughly along the former A74 trunk road north through Annandale to Moffat. Bedford VAS1 DCG631C has just arrived with me, it was new in December 1965 to Winn (Sportsman Coaches) of Whiston with military-style Marshall B30F body and purchased in May 1970.

The little bus which must have been dealer registered in Hampshire, as frequently encountered, was sold some time later in the decade to MacIntyre, Castlebay, Isle of Barra who ceased around 1980. The Annandale Arms Hotel has fared better as it still performs its role, albeit with list prices beyond my budget; the town is still nicer than A74(M) for a refreshment break. After a walk and wait, my day ended in spectacular style with British Rail Class 50s 420 & D407 over 30 minutes late to Carlisle with the 19:05 from Beattock station. thus fulfilling my wish to sample the famous location prior to closure to passengers.
