JBD963 was an early Lodekka with the full depth radiator and was new in 1954 as United Counties 958. An E.C.W. H33/25RD body was carried by the Bristol LD6B chassis and it is seen in Bedford.

One of a batch new to Southern Vectis as 508, KDL404, this 1954 LD6G first moved from the sunshine island to United Counties at Luton then to United at Scarborough and finally, after conversion to a trainer bus for United. Those of the batch that made the last hurdle to trainer bus (others fell by the wayside on the way) replaced more recently built United LD6Bs.

Hants & Dorset 1218, JEL757, was the last of six A.E.C. 6811A Regent IIIs with Northern Counties L27/26R bodies new in 1949 which had been diverted from Western S.M.T. and is seen in Bournemouth.

MWY112 was the third Bristol Lodekka for the West Yorkshire fleet. Numbered DX3, it was delivered in February 1954 and, with sister DX4, entered service at Harrogate in May 1954.

My first visit to Winchester after travelling from Bournemouth and greeted by a selection of rear ends of Hants and Dorset Lodekkas including NEL23 and FLJ154D, also an Aldershot and District Loline nearest the "Welcome to Winchester" arch, which was a nice touch for visitors.

It was withdrawn in September 1969, but was one of two LD type Lodekkas that were reprieved and converted into the first dedicated learner buses for West Yorkshire, despite having already been painted into "disposal livery" with green paint covering the cream bands.

Western National 1936, VDV753, is seen in Penzance whilst operating the open-top service between Newlyn Bridge and Marazion. It is a Bristol LDL6G which was delivered in December 1957 with ECW H37/33RD bodywork. It was coverted to open-top in May 1973 and named Sir Humphry Davy.

Braving the very wet weather is Western National 1936, VDV753 and is seen at the BVBG spring!! running day. It was sold by Quantock Motors at end of 2014 to a member of the BVBG and this is probably it's first pubic appearance since then. It may even have had a repaint or intensive clean up because it's devoid of it's name "Sir Humphry Davy" etc. The sister vehicle is likely to be sold during 2015.

It shouldn't be forgotten, however, that this bus, new in 1959 and believed to be the last Lodekka in the British Isles which retains its detachable roof as built from new, earns its keep operating private hires and scheduled services for Cumbria Classic Coaches of Ravenstonedale.

Hants & Dorset 1488, YRU64 is a Bristol LD6B with ECW H33/27RD body, new in 1959 as 1425. At the 1971 renumbering, she appears to have become 1488, but the number isn't clear enough on the slide for me to read without a projector . . .

Berresford's OCS70 started life as Western SMT B1566 in June 1960 and was originally H33/27RD on the Bristol LD6G chassis. Converted to a recovery vehicle by Western and numbered 7060, this image scanned from a print was taken by my brother possibly on the same May 1981 trip as my other images.

Poor quality but I hope its worth it. In colour a red and green coloured bus both at Cambridge Railway Station in the early 1960s. The Eastern Counties Bristol KSW5G, new in 1952, MAH309, LKH309 was bodied by ECW H32/28R and is on the short run from the station through the City Centre. On a very much longer run is 1960 United Counties URP600 shortly to set off on route 128 to Northampton. Fleet no 600 is a Bristol FS6B with ECW body H33/27RD.
