An impressive line-up of preserved former MacBrayne's vehicles at a Scottish Vintage Bus Museum open day at Lathalmond.
From left to right
162, KGD903, a Bedford OLAZ with Duple C20F body, new in 1952;
149, HGG359, a Thornycroft Nippy HF/ER4 with Croft C20F body, new in 1950;
136, GUS926, a Maudslay Marathon III with Park Royal C35F body, new in 1949;
210, HGA983D, a Bedford VAS1 with Duple Midland/Willowbrook (take your pick !) B24FM body, new in 1966;
150, LUS524E, an AEC Reliance 2U3RA with Willowbrook DP49F body, new in 1967;
63, 198CUS, an AEC Relaince 2MU3RV with Duple Donington C41F body, new in 1961.
I believe that during its time with a subsequent owner the Thornycroft was fitted with a Ford diesel engine, and since I can't imagine that a replacement Thornycroft engine would be easily available to restore it to original condition that it probably still has it fitted.
