1. MNG445 ... Green, Thorney MNG445, acquired in June 1955 from Thompson, East Dereham, was a Bedford SB with a Churchill C33F body. It is seen here at Bishop's Road Bus Station, Peterborough and passed to Pulfrey, Great Gonerby in 1962. (Sat 24/1/59, Bishop's Road Bus Station, Peterborough)

2. NPT166 ... Morley, Whittlesea NPT166, a Bedford SB, seen here at Bishop's Road Bus Station, Peterborough, had a Plaxton C35F body and had been acquired from Barker, Annfield Plain in May 1954. (Sat 24/1/59, Bishop's Road Bus Station, Peterborough)

3. TVU950 ... The history of Dunnet Motors of Keiss dates back to the 1880s when they first provided a horsedrawn goods service between Wick station and Keiss, the railway having reached Wick in July 1874. From about 1920 their buses became a familiar sight between Wick and Keiss and, from 1942, between Wick and John o' Groats. They operated a varied fleet which at one time included a pair of Pickering-bodied Regals which came from Northern General and a pre-war ex-Chesterfield Regent which came north via McLennan of Spittalfield. I almost once travelled on one of the Regals but that's another story! (c.1971, High Street, Wick)

5. AJK521 ... I apologise for the quality of this obviously damaged photograph but I have included it because it typifies small operators in 50s/60s, in particular the small yards and garages where vehicles were parked when not in use. (c.1961/2, Tremains garage, Zelah)

6. BTS946 ... Peace of Kirkwall, Orkney, BTS946 a Bedford SB built in 1951 with Plaxton Venturer C34F bodywork. Peace had bought this from fellow Kirkwall operator Nicolson in November 1963. (August 1973, Peace's Garage, Burnmouth Road, Kirkwall, Orkney)

8. EJD510 ... Springett (t/a Jennings), Ashen EJD510, a Bedford SB with a Duple Vega C33F body, and seen at their garage, was acquired in April 1964 from Pyman, Stambourn, having been new in 1951 to Essex County, London E.15. (Sun 31/10/65, Garage, Ashen, Essex)

9. ETK80 ... A.H Condon of 1, Blandford Road, Hamwothy, Poole traded as Minuet Coaches and in 9/51 bought this Bedford SB/Duple Vega C33F ETK80. (October 1951, Velder Avenue, Southsea)

10. EX7122 ... This Bedford SB/Duple was owned by Ideal Coaches of Grampound Rd. EX7122 had a C33F body and was new in 1951. It came to Ideal from Seagull Great Yarmouth and was with Ideal from 7/60 until 3/62 and the last vehicle they owned. (c.1961/2, Truro)

13. FTL217 ... Barton, Chilwell 890, FTL217, was a Bedford SB with a Duple C33F body which had been new in October 1951 to McKechnie & Coal, Stamford. (Sun 25/8/63, Chilwell Garage)

14. GDW981 ... Safeguard, Guildford acquired Bedford SB GDW981, which had a Duple Vega C33F body, from Alpha, Brighton in April 1954, it having been new to Diaper, Newport in 1951. (Sat 4/10/58, Onslow Street Bus Station, Guildford)

18. HJF59 ... New as Provincial, Leicester B5 in December 1951, HJF59, a Duple C33F bodied Bedford SB, had passed to Bingham & Easton, Milking Nook, Peterborough by July 1956 with whom it is seen here at Bishop's Road Bus Station, Peterborough. 24. KAB283 ... McKechnie & Cole (Cream Bus Service), Stamford 12, KAB283, a Bedford SB which had a Duple C33F body had been new in July 1951 and is seen here at Bishop's Road Bus Station, Peterborough. 27. LRU5 ... Mitchell, Warnham LRU5 was a Bedford SB with a Gurney Nutting C35F body new in 1951, which had been acquired in January 1960 from Shamrock & Rambler, Bournemouth, and which was seen at Carfax in Horsham. (Sat 30/1/60, Carfax, Horsham)

28. LRU6 ... Malta Route Bus 2435 Y-0522, a Bedford SB built in 1951/2 with Gurney Nutting C35F bodywork, rebodied B36F in Malta by Debono in 1968. (1993, Valletta Bus Station)

29. LYH591 ... LYH591 was the first of a pair of Bedford SBs with Duple Vega C41F bodies new to United Service Transport, London S.W. 17 in June 1951. Carrying fleet number 1082, it is seen at Ascot races. (Sat 21/7/62, Ascot)

30. MAH333 ... Still around in the mid 1970s was MAH333 which was a 1951 Bedford SB/Duple Vega C33F new to Brown (Norfolk Coachways) Attleborough. Their livery was red & black, so it was no longer with them, but I can't remember whose it was when I photographed it. It appears to have a PSV disc in place. I'm not too sure about the masking tape sun visor though. (c.1974/5, Locking Road Coach Park, Weston-Super-Mare)

31. MOD688 ... New in 1951 to Heybrook Bay, Down Thomas, Bedford SB "Duple Vega" C33F MOD688 was actually bodied by Brush under licence. (Sat 1/6/68, Barker Lane Bus Station, Shrewsbury)

32. MPW455 ... This 1951 Bedford SB carries Duple coach work and was new to Stainsby of Heacham. It is seen at the former Wallace Arnold depot in Leeds taking part in a Huddersfield Rally in 1986. It is currently owned by Mossley Coach Dealers of South Elmsall. (Mon 18/8/86, Wallace Arnold Depot Geldard Road, Leeds)

33. NKR250 ... NKR250 was an early Bedford SB with a Thurgood C35F body new in June 1951 to Moody, Northfleet which was seen at Alexandra Avenue in Battersea Park Road, South West London, still with him twenty-one years later. (Sat 16/9/72, Alexandra Avenue, Battersea Park Road, London)

34. PPH698 ... PPH698, a Bedford SB with Duple C33F body new in 1951 to H. R. Richmond of Epsom. Surrey who later became Epsom Coaches (Sun 29/7/12, Marine Parade, Worthing)

39. FTL439 ... McKechnie & Cole (Cream Bus Service), Stamford 10, FTL439, seen here in Bishops Road Bus Station in Peterborough was a Bedford SB with a Duple C33F body new in January 1952. In February 1961 it passed to Barton, Chilwell as number 888 and was withdrawn in 1963 after which it passed to Leonard Cheshire Home, West Bridgford as a non-P.S.V. 43. JOU914 ... This photograph of JOU914, a Bedford SB with Duple C33F body new in 1952, poses a question. It has been in the collection of David Burrows for nearly 25 years but he has no information on who took it or where it is. The coach is owned by Basil Williams (Hants & Sussex) we know, and it subsequently came to Moody, Northfleet for a few years. (1952/3, Brunswick Street, Liverpool)

46. L4595 ... This Bedford SB with a Duple C33F body had been new in 1952 to Orange, London S.W.2 as LYL699. It passed to Orange, London N.16 when the business was acquired by Ewer, London N.16 and after withdrawal in January 1960 passed to the Aden Bus Company Ltd. by September 1961 to become L4595. It passed to Orange, London N.16 when the business was acquired by Ewer, London N.16 and after withdrawal in January 1960 passed to the Aden Bus Company Ltd. by September 1961 to become L4595. 50. TVW388 ... Letch, Sible Hedingham TVW388 was a Bedford SB with a Duple Vega body which was seen at Braintree. It was acquired in September 1955 from L.C. EBV281, was a Bedford SB with a Duple Vega C37F body new in March 1953 to Cronshaw, London N.W.4, passing to Digby, West Bergholt, then to Neale, Teddington and to Windsorian, Windsor before passing to Hunt (Carshalton Belle), Carshalton with whom it is seen operating on a section of London Transport route 151 which ran between Hackbridge (Reynolds Close) and Morden Station on Sundays. 76. 16412 ... Tally Ho!, St. Peter Port, Guernsey acquired this Bedford SBG with a Duple Vega C36F body from Tantivy, St. Helier 24 in February 1973. 401. SWH480 ... From the late 1940s, bus services on the Cowal peninsula were operated by the associated firms of Cowal Motor Services and Baird's. These were run by the Graham brothers, Alex running the bus firm Dunoon Motor Services from John Street (who traded as Cowal Motor Services after Alex's death) and Harry running Baird's, the coaches, black-cab taxis and funeral service from Auchamore Road. In later years everything was operated from this latter depot. SWH480 was a Bedford SB5 with Duple Super Vega C41F bodywork, a style of body which was very popular with the twin operators.
