Southend 320, WHJ431, a 1960 AEC Bridgemaster stands at Benfleet Station prior to being the first Southend bus on normal stage carriage service to operate on Canvey Island under co-ordination area agreement changes.
Services 3/3A were revised to operate from Shoeburyness to Canvey (Leigh Beck) becoming the longest route in the Southend Co-ordination area. The first journey was rather special in that it was on service 26, previously a sole Eastern National operation linking Canvey with Basildon, bringing a Southend Transport bus along Eastern Esplanade on the island once a week. In true Southend fashion, new or modified destination blinds were fitted to cater for the changes.
The leaflets advertising the major revision to routes are here.
