Interior shot of RC4615, the 1937 Trent Regal with Willowbrook body. The seats are the original moquette. The Odeon style lights are quaint. Trent ran these types on seaside services and were understandably unpopular with passengers.

Prefect Coaches, Liverpool RC4631 and EDK726 were seen in the coach park in Portland Street, Manchester which backed on to Chorlton Street Bus Station. RC4631 was a 1937 A.E.C. O661 Regent acquired from Trent, Derby 1025 which had a Willowbrook H30/26R body new in 1948 whilst EDK726 was a Leyland TS11 Tiger, new to Yelloway, Rochdale in 1942 with a Burlingham C32- body.

RC4637, an AEC Regent new to Trent in 1937 with a Weymann body and rebodied in October 1948 by Willowbrook. Sold in March 1958 to Frank Cowley and sold onto to Passenger Transport Facility Manchester, last licenced in June 1960.

RC7085, a 1939 ex Trent BMMO ONC with Willowbrook C31F body, was sold to a Nottingham dealer at an unknown date and became a caravan by 1959. Appears to be supported at the front on concrete blocks, presumably the exit is on the other side. There's nothing TAT about the Ford at the side of the bus.

A shot taken at the Beckley premises of Dengates and shows fleet No11, NJ6603, a 1935 Dennis Lancet with a Thurgood B32F body. It was purchased new by Dengates and was withdrawn in 1954 when it became a static office as seen here. It remained in this capacity until the early 60s when it was scrapped. The double decker is DCT486, the 1948 Crossley DD42/5 with Willowbrook H28/26R bodywork. New to Delaine, Bourne, it was acquired by Dengates in 1959 and withdrawn in 1963. It was sold to Cowleys in 1965.

Like a number of companies in the fifties, Barton rebuilt a number of Leyland Tigers some of which received double deck bodies by Willowbrook. Seen at the 2011 Kirkby Stephen rally is Barton 782, WAL782, which was new to Barton in 1948 as a saloon. It was rebuilt in 1957.

A busy day at Lower Mosley Street Bus Station in Manchester sees Hebble 185, BCP829, departing on the X12 service to Bradford. This was a Willowbrook DP33F bodied Leyland PS2/3 new in 1950 as number 42, becoming 20 in June 1957, 185 in June 1958 and finally 134 in August 1960. After withdrawal in February 1962 it passed to Great Yarmouth as number 17 entering service in October. It passed in May 1965 to Wallasey Corporation Welfare Department and was rebuilt to B17FL.

Seen in an almost deserted Glasgow Paddocks, Doncaster is Lincolnshire 1871, FFU858. Although delivered to Enterprise & Silver Dawn as 54 it had not been licensed when Lincolnshire acquired the company in March 1950 and it entered service in July 1950 as Lincolnshire 854. It became 1871 in the 1953 renumbering and was an A.E.C. 9621E Regal III with a Willowbrook DP35F body.

Blue Bus Services (Tailby & George) were famous for operating four of the rare Daimler CD650's, each with a Willowbrook lowbridge body, PRA387/8 new in 1951 and SRB424/5 new in 1953 with fleet numbers DR13-16 respectively. SRB424, dating from 1953, makes a speedy departure from an eerily quiet Derby bus station.

Venture Transport 200, 164BUP, was an Albion Aberdonian with Willowbrook B45F bodywork, formerly an unregistered demonstrator dating from 1958. It entered service in January 1959 and was Venture's first bus to have a three-track number blind, somewhat superfluous for a company whose highest numbered service during its independent existence was 88. It was allocated to Blackhill depot and I well remember it coming through our village displaying 500 instead of 005.

Between 1931 and 1961, when ten Regent V 2D2RAs were purchased, with the body order equally split between Metro-Cammell and Willowbrook, only two prototypes - a 7.7 litre Regent V in 1954 and a Bridgemaster in 1956 - were bought new.

Aberdare UDC didn't buy any new buses from 1958 until 1962 when as well as a small Morris the first of twenty-three AEC Reliances arrived, most of which would have Willowbrook dual-door bodies. The 1962 deliveries comprised four, 18-21 (918-921MTG) which as well as being the first new buses in this lighter livery were also the first one-man buses in the fleet. 20, 920MTG, was an AEC Reliance 2MU2RA with Willowbrook B42D bodywork.

I was fortunate to be working for Midland Red at Digbeth Coach Station in the early 1960s and so was on hand to photograph anything new that turned up. The acquisition of new DP single deckers from an outside supplier was quite an event and hadn't happened for 10 years at that time. Seen here is LS18A 5185, 5185HA, just after delivery from Central Works, following a quality inspection, and ready to enter service the following day. The LS18As had Leyland PSU3/4R running units with Willowbrook 48 seat dual-purpose bodywork.

Isle of Man Road Services bought a number of Leyland Titan PD3s from Midland Red in 1972 who had in turn acquired them from Stratford Blue when that company was wound up. Among them was the former Stratford Blue 7, GUE1D, a 1966 Leyland Titan PD3A/1 with Willowbrook bodywork. In the Isle of Man it was re-registered MN2670 and given the fleet number 70.

In 1968 West Mon took delivery of a single Leyland Leopard PSU4/1R with Willowbrook B45F bodywork to what was quite an old design at the time, with curved rear dome and traditional split front windscreen rather than the curved screen BET design. At the time of the photograph 29, OAX160F, was out of service at Blackwood depot. The yellow light on the front appeared on some but not all of the single deck buses on my 1978 visit.

Most of these were Roe bodied double deckers however in 1970 a trio of Willowbrook bodied Fleetline saloons entered service. On 1 December 1973 Blue Bus sold out to Derby Corporation who numbered it 43. Grenville purchased it from Derby (by then Derby Borough Transport) in 1975. It is seen at Grenville's Camborne terminus outside the company's office in Cross Street.

Willowbrook demonstrator '1973' was one of three such coaches demonstrated at Gynn Square during the 13th National Coach Rally at Blackpool. All had Willowbrook '002' Expressway bodies and were one Ford R192 - C45F, and two Ford R1014 - C45F. The identity of this one is unknown.

The Isle of Cumbrae, in the Firth of Clyde, can boast two operators for one main supported service between the town of Millport and the ferry terminal, for a population of around 2,000. CSJ364L was a Ford R1014 with Willowbrook C45F body which entered service in 1973 with Millport Motors. The island is popular with cyclists of all ages, this view has only one! as the bus makes its way to the Millport terminus at the old pier. The other operator is appropriately "Cumbrae Coaches"

Trent 571, ONN571P, an ECW bodied Leyland Atlantean had its body destroyed in the fire at Meadow Road depot, Derby in July 1976. It was subsequently rebodied by Willowbrook with a style similar to the 1969 bodies on the Devon General Atlanteans that were diverted to Yorkshire Traction, although the front panel is to a much plainer design. Alongside by happy co-incidence is 572, ONN572P, with the original Eastern Coach Works body.

OYT531R was acquired by Thamesmead Motor Services, London S.E.16 in October 1980 from National Travel (London), becoming number 54. This was one of four A.E.C. 6U3ZL Reliances new in August 1976 to National Travel (South East) with Willowbrook C47F bodies. It was severely damaged in September 1981 in an accident and passed in the November to Paul Sykes (dealer).
