NHE517 was an AEC Reliance MU3RV, with Duple Britannia C41F coachwork, new in May 1958 to the Barnsley British Co-operative Society, Barugh.
In later years the coach found its way to Dave Hudson, the well-known stock car driver, in whose ownership it is seen here. The rear end has obviously been modified in order to transport a stock car, and the "fishtail" to accommodate the rear door/ramp is a neat touch. (Almost a more modern take on the Harrington "dorsal fin", albeit with a different purpose in mind....)
For many years this photo frustrated me, due to a total lack of information as to the vehicle's history. Fortunately I discovered SCT'61 (thanks Chris Y!) and then at some point noted postings relating to Bus Lists On The Web, which has provided me with details for NHE517 at last.

Now, another question: Am I right in thinking that the polished trim is unusual for a Britannia?
