Barnaby Body Index

Samuel Ledgard DUB82, a 1936 Leyland Cheetah LZ with delightfully "traditional" Barnaby bodywork.
One of three similar buses (the other two being light Lions) taken over in 1943 from G.F.Tate of Leeds after the death of the proprietor - the two services of Mr. and Mrs. Tate were also acquired and operated. After the War DUB82 spent a year or two in storage but was somewhat surprisingly then fully overhauled and returned to service. It performed in an astonishingly lively manner, considering its small engine of 4.7 litres, 39 seats, and the need to ascend the forbidding Harewood Bank on its regular route from Otley to Wetherby. It also shrugged off the desirability of an offside headlamp and uncannily found its way on the unlit country roads. Complete with spinning roof ventilators and Barnaby wooden planked ceiling it was a fascinating and appealing machine.
