In 1938/39 Southdown bought 11 Leyland Cheetah/Park Royal C24C for the Hayling Island express route to London and for excursion work from Hayling. They spent their lives in the area until the Langstone Bridge was replaced in September 1956 when they were withdrawn and sold.
Southdown 602, EUF502, was one of the 5 Leyland LZ3 new in 1938, seen here at Hayling Garage in June 1950. The 1939 batch were LZ4 models. The Cheetahs were new as 500-510, but were renumbered 600-610 and reseated to C25C in 1948, thus freeing up the fleetnumbers for the JCD registered Guy Arab III/NCME new in 1948/49.
