Recognise anyone? The Southern Counties Touring Society visited Portsmouth on 14th May 1950, and Roger seems to have had a hand in the organisation of a tour for the participants. This group photo was taken at Paulsgrove during the tour - from Roger's notes, I can offer up the following from L to R :Inspector Brooks; Driver 666; not known; E.J.Smith (editor Buses Illustrated); Roger Janes (open collar); the rest I have no idea. By the way, the bus is Portsmouth 38 EBK575, a 14 month old Crossley DD42/7T with a Crossley H28/24R body.
Later (in 1958) it had its Crossley engine and Salerni turbo-transmitter replaced by a 1936/37 Leyland TD4 engine, clutch and gearbox. All 25 DD42/7T in the Portsmouth fleet were similarily treated, but the 6 DD42/5T soldiered on with the turbo-transmitters until withdrawal.
