When Blackpool manager Walter Luff upgraded the tram fleet in the nineteen thirties, among the designs was an open top single deck tram for summer use. Originally called Luxury Toastracks, they quickly became known as boats for obvious reasons. The original car 233 entered service in 1934 and was finally withdrawn in 2004.
Now owned by the Lancastrian Transport Trust, the car is currently on loan to the Beamish Open Air Museum and is seen in the Edwardian town.
