Dwarfed by a Northern General Routemaster, Gypsy Queen (of Langley Park, Durham City) MV8996, a Bedford WLB with Duple C20F body. This was new as a Duple demonstrator in 1931 and passed through several owners and operators until The North East Bus Preservation Trust acquired it in 2007.
Although only owned by Gypsy Queen from 1985 to 1997, NEBPT has restored it in that operator's livery that included its celebration of 60 years service in 1990 – as shown on the badge in front of the door. The driver on the left is not bowing his head in solemn reverence to a vehicle older than himself; he is merely checking the fall of his fag ash.
