A new, brighter blue and white livery was introduced to the Southend Transport fleet in 1987, initially on the 6 Optare City Pacers; the new colours were extended to the Fleetlines from October 1988, although the red band was not used on Fleetlines until May 1989. Here we see 221, XTE221V, displaying the new style at Shenfield Station on rail replacement work.
221 was used for a special "Fleetline Farewell" tour on 2/7/01 and was withdrawn a few days later, replaced by a Dennis Trident (a type which proved very short-lived in Southend!).
