A second photo of rail replacement vehicles at Laindon Station, with Southend Massey bodied PD3 315, PHJ954, followed by one of the Weymann bodied PD2s.
Rail replacement was much rarer in the 1950s and the PD3 looks new so it seems likely that they were taken when the Fenchurch Street line was closed by a landslide between Pitsea and Laindon after some severe storms that affected Essex and Kent on Friday 5th September 1958.
During the same storm, passengers were trapped on the top deck of a half submerged double decker in Wickford High Street.
The first photo is here.
The photo may well have been taken by John himself or possibly by Frank Church.
