A line of rail replacement vehicles at Laindon Station, headed by ENOC Lodekka 1488, 436FEV, followed by another Lodekka and two Massey bodied Southend buses, the first one of the 1958 PD3s and the second one of the 1948 or 1949 Daimler CVs.
Rail replacement was much rarer in the 1950s and the PD3 looks new so it seems likely that they were taken when the Fenchurch Street line was closed by a landslide between Pitsea and Laindon after some severe storms that affected Essex and Kent on Friday 5th September 1958.
During the same storm, passengers were trapped on the top deck of a half submerged double decker in Wickford High Street.
There is a second photo taken here.
The photo may well have been taken by John himself or possibly by Frank Church.
