The second Eastern National vehicle to carry fleetnumber 1000 in the 1964 numbering scheme after YAL368, Ford R1014 / Duple B43F MAR775P was new in February 1976 and withdrawn less than six years later in November 1981.
Exactly 25 years after this photo was taken, the route and route number still survive but not much else. Gone is the Eastern National name and livery, replaced by First Essex and Barbie, gone too is the 1964 numbering system replaced by the First five digit Sema national system. Chelmsford bus station and depot is a pile of rubble, awaiting redevelopment into flats and a new bus station. Route 59 is now operated by Harlow depot, which in 1980 was London Country and in 2005 is Arriva the Shires, using Optare built Solos, Optare being the 1980s successor to Roe.
